Make Some Vintage Lemonade

Summer is coming.  It's lemonade time.  Nothing beats the homemade kind you make with real lemons!

I've tried the homemade lemonade recipes that use simple syrup and lemon juice.  They're good, but they don't have the same flavor you get when you use real lemons.

True vintage lemonade uses the pulp and the rinds. The recipe is actually very simple.

Peel 6 lemons, cutting the rinds into one inch pieces. Cover the rinds with a cup of sugar and let sit for one hour. Meanwhile, squeeze the juice from the pulp into a separate bowl and add 4 cups of water. After an hour, strain the liquid from the rinds and add it to the water and juice. Stir, add ice, and enjoy!

Some people may find the lemon rind flavor a bit bitter.  That probably results from extracting too much of the oil if you leave them in the sugar too long.  If you follow the directions to leave them in the sugar for exactly an hour, you shouldn't have that problem.
